The password that protects your employer file is separate from your BrightPay Connect password. If you can still open the file, you can change the password at any time. If you can't remember the password, or BrightPay doesn't accept it, the support team needs to unlock the file for you.
Changing your employer file password
If you can open the employer file:
- Click File at the top of the screen.
- Select Set/Change Password.
- Enter the new password and click OK.
If you've forgotten the password or it isn't working
The password can't be reset within the software, so you will need to send a copy of your employer file to the support team. Sending the file through BrightPay is safer than attaching it to an email, as it is encrypted.
- On the Open Employer screen, right-click the employer and select Contact Support Team.
- Tick Include file and send your request.
If you can't send it from the software, hover over your business name on the Open Employer screen to see where the file is saved, then attach the file (named 'your business name.bpie26') to your email to support.
BrightPay is mindful of the sensitive nature of customer data. Once data is received, it is held in a secure environment and kept only for the minimum time required.
Restoring the file once support sends it back
The support team will reset the password and return your employer file with a temporary password.
- Save the file into the folder where your current BrightPay data is held. If unsure where this is, hover over your business name on the Open Employer screen. If asked to replace the existing file, select Yes.
- Open BrightPay and click Browse straight away. Browse to the folder where the file has just been saved.
- Select the employer file and click Open.
- Enter the temporary password.
- Click File > Set/Change Password and choose a password of your own.
If the password you are having trouble with is for BrightPay Connect rather than your employer file, see Desktop - Registering for BrightPay Connect.
